Out of 313 participants, 134 questioned the trustworthiness of dating sites on the Internet because of bad experiences. One reader stated, “It all depends on the people using the site. Many hurting and lonely people are prey for sheep in wolves clothing.” For this reason, Believers should never give out their personal information until they have determined that they can trust the person they are communicating with. A trustworthy forum for Christian singles provides security by keeping personal information confidential.

Numerous Believers feel that most singles sites on the Internet are not trustworthy. There were 122 who responded “no” to the survey question. The overall consensus is that there are people on dating sites for Christians who are not truly Believers. They pretend to be Christians for unscrupulous reasons. One participant made a good point by writing, “Yes, the site may be trustworthy but the people who use it might not be.”

Fifty-seven readers responded “yes” to the survey question. Overall the consensus with this group is that there are some trustworthy ways to meet Christian singles online. One Believer wrote, “Singles sites are just as safe as being in public, but can also be just as dangerous. One participant feels that online chatrooms are a good place to minister to others, “Because it gives me an opportunity to meet people from all over the world, to discuss, to share, to counsel, and to pray with others.” One of the hopes of Believers when participating in online chatrooms is to find new Christian friends.

Several people who answered the survey question felt that online chat forums were often confusing and the conversations were hard to follow. One person said, “Sometimes I don’t type fast enough or the discussion moves too fast.” Some apprehension about using chat rooms was expressed by a couple of readers. Fear of talking to someone who isn’t sincere or has the wrong motives can be uncomfortable, and this keeps one participant from doing so. Another reader prefers face-to-face contact. Internet service being too costly is another reason used by a reader who doesn’t use online discussion forums.

Participants in the survey seem to use online chatrooms for different reasons but one of the most popular reasons is because it’s the fastest way to meet people. A thankful respondent said, “I am somewhat disabled and don’t get out much so chatting in chat rooms helps me to not feel lonely.” One productive Believer participates in online chatrooms as an opportunity to use idle moments for ministry. Another enjoyable aspect of communicating through the Internet is to exchange cultures with others.

As one respondent pointed out, it is good to use online chat rooms to keep in touch with family, friends, and other Believers. One participant stated, “I believe you can. I met my husband online on ChristiaNet.com. It can be done in a Christian manner if you keep your standards in check.” While many agree that it is okay for Christian singles to place a profile on a Christian site, some respondents felt that it is important to be certain that the site is Christian oriented. Out of 200 readers, there were 104, who felt that God can use a Christian dating site for the good of His children. Some people suggested using the opportunity on free online dating sites to witness to others about Jesus. Emphasis was placed on asking the Holy Spirit for discernment and guidance before getting involved with someone online. There were a substantial amount of people who felt that God chooses many different ways to bring Believers together. One of the key concerns was stated well by one respondent, “Yes, it is a good forum to meet people, but with prayer and caution; because everyone’s agenda isn’t always honorable.”

Thirty-two of the readers answered “no” to the poll question and emphasized the importance of safety because many sites attract people who aren’t honorable. One Believer wrote, “I would rather meet friends online for a brother/sister relationship.” All Christian singles should measure their actions according to God’s word. Those who are lonely should turn to God for comfort and pray for His will to be accomplished. One believer felt that “dating” is not Biblical.

Sixty-four of the participants were unsure about Christians becoming involved in online dating. A few remarks were by Believers who had bad experiences and felt discouraged. One believer stated, “If you do, it should be to look for other Christian singles.” Each person should examine their motives and be careful not to become involved with others for the wrong reasons. Believers need to trust in the Lord, and when the answer comes, there won’t be any doubts.

Fifty-nine participants answered “no” to the survey question. The overall consensus with this group is one of concern. Many respondents in this group do not feel the Internet is a safe place to meet a potential spouse. One reader wrote, “No, absolutely not!
